Lung Foundation Australia’s General Practice Advisory Group Chair, Dr Kerry Hancock, said the new item was a step towards addressing underuse of spirometry in primary care.
Dr Hancock said, “Unfortunately, the increased rebate does not meet the true cost of performing spirometry in General Practice. Gold Coast Health’s Scientific Director of the Lung Function Lab Debbie Zagami has provided tips on how to best perform a spirometry. “It is imperative that staff performing spirometry understand the requirements for a quality test and in turn, GPs know how to interpret the results.”, she said.
