Leg ulcers are becoming increasingly complex due to a greater number of comorbid conditions. It is estimated that 1-3% of the population experience leg ulcers during their lifetime. Ulcer healing rates are notoriously poor and have a high recurrence rate. Leg ulcer treatment is expensive and has a significant impact on the quality of life of affected individuals.

In this interactive workshop, participants will learn about the different types of leg ulcers and associated assessment and management techniques.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn practical strategies, collaborate with peers, gain valuable insights to enhance their practice and interact with industry sponsors.

This workshop is specifically for nurses working in residential and community aged care services in the Gold Coast region.

By participating in this workshop, attendees will have:

• Increased knowledge of leg ulcer prevalence
• Increased confidence in identifying the different types of lower leg ulcers
• Increased knowledge of assessment, management, and prevention strategies for each aetiology
• Increased confidence in the use of compression therapy including selection, application, and removal techniques
• Increased knowledge of ways to maintain skin integrity

Presenters:

• Dr Michelle Gibb – Nurse Practitioner and Director and Founder of Wound Specialist Services Pty Ltd
  Michelle is a nurse practitioner with extensive experience in wound management across the continuum of healthcare and is well known both nationally and internationally for her expertise in the field. With a Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Nursing Science (Nurse Practitioner), Masters of Wound Care, Bachelor of Nursing and over 20 years’ career experience in the specialty of wounds, Michelle has a proven ability to inspire, motivate and develop others in the specialty of wounds. She is a professional leader, role model and mentor and has demonstrated ability to lead others through change.
