The Australian Government has identified the Gold Coast as a priority area for lifting vaccination rates in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The Commonwealth government has set a 80% vaccination rate by 31 October 2021 for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians aged 12 years and over.
The current vaccination rate for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians aged 12 years and over across the Gold Coast is approximately 31%.
GCPHN is requesting all general practices across the Gold Coast reach out to their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, who may not have received a COVID-19 vaccination, to offer a vaccination pathway.
GCPHN can offer support to practices who may need assistance, to recall identified patients.
GCPHN, in conjunction with the Department of Health, Kalwun Health Services, and Queensland Health are working to develop and support community engagement activities, culturally appropriate messaging, address vaccine hesitancy, facilitate informed consent and conduct health promotion activities.
If practices would like additional advice or require assistance from GCPHN to support vaccination pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, please contact the practice support team via email.
