The GP Liaison (GPL) Psychiatry Service has been designed to support GPs to care for patients with identified mental health needs, by the way of collaborative care, education, case discussion, and/or joint consultation.
The GPL Psychiatry Service consists of a full-time GP-Liaison Psychiatry Registrar and a part-time Consultant Psychiatrist who:
attend the GP practice one session per fortnight to see patients face to face
offer telephone support to assist the GPs with their clinical queries
offer case conference (which the GP can bill under Medicare)
The service offers a great contact point for common queries regarding medication optimisation, management strategies, or potential advice on further referral pathways for challenging or high-risk patients.
GPL Psychiatry Service is also a useful source of advice for GPs treating patients who are otherwise not indicated for further case-management by the Mental Health Service but require additional support.
For more information download the GPL Psychiatry pamphlet or contact the GP Liaison Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Neeraj Gill on 0475 838 132 or Neeraj.Gill@health.qld.gov.au. Please express your interest by emailing Neeraj Gill by Friday, 5 July 2019.
