The My health for life program works with general practitioners (GPs) and other health professionals to provide patients with a personalised program or activity to help them take manageable steps to get their health on track. Facilitators are trained health professionals, including dietitians and exercise physiologists, who have a keen interest in preventive health.
Please read the My health for life Q&A with Atkins Health to see the benefits for both providers and clients of this program.
|Who are you? … Tell us about your organisation and the services you provide.
Atkins Health are a team of accredited exercise physiologists who help their clients improve their health, movement issues, and fitness thorough physical therapy – exercise, as well as referring some patients to the My health for life program. Atkins Health sessions are designed to give our clients incredible value and the structure to achieve the results that they are looking for and need. We work off capitalising on three key principles when assessing and three key principles when prescribing your program.
What does prevention mean to you? How has My health for life supported your patients in achieving their health goals?
Preventative health to us looks into a number of different aspects of health. These include education on chronic illnesses, improved nutrition, reducing smoking and alcohol intake, encouraging more exercise, and supporting mental health. The education around these areas helps to positively influence clients to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Tell us about your participants’ experience in the My health for life program … what do they enjoy most about the program?
Goal setting is a large portion of what our clients do. The better part is when they are able to set an appropriate SMART goal and achieve that by our six month catch up. The programs ability to positively affect people lives is the best part.
Has COVID-19 changed the way in which you deliver the program?
Yes, unfortunately we did not run the program throughout lockdown. However, we now have the opportunity to run smaller face to face groups and/or online workshops.
Why would you recommend patients/clients be referred into the My health for life program?
We highly recommend the My health for life program to all of our clients as the more people we can educate and upskill in the area of health literacy the better. Chronic illness in Queensland is on the rise and if we can help tackle it from two avenues, the better.
How can people refer to you and your upcoming programs?
