The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has launched new resources to assist General Practitioners (GPs) to better support their patients when applying for access to the NDIS. The new resources have been designed to help make the process easier for both GPs and their patients by providing easy access to practical, up to date information.
The resources have been in partnership with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
Dedicated GP and health professionals page on the NDIS website, including FAQs and links to important information about the Scheme and access process.
Online learning module – to assist GPs get a better understanding of the Scheme and what is funded by the NDIS
NDIA Access Assessor video – providing eligibility and supporting evidence tips
Providing evidence to support an access request – tips from a GP colleague video
‘Who else can help’ brochure – including tips on other professionals who can complete parts of the Access Request Form such as practice nurses, practice managers, or allied health professionals
6 point eligibility checklist – providing GPs a quick and easy way to determine if a patient might be eligible for the NDIS
The NDIA has also collated several other helpful resources, all reviewed and endorsed by RACGP GPs. These include a range of practical guides such as Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) billing scenarios, resources specific to psychosocial disability, multilingual patient information, quick links to NDIS forms, and a video library providing a range of perspectives on the NDIS.
