This new service provides low-intensity support for people who are seeking a friendly space during times of mental health distress, outside of regular business hours when other services may not be open.
As a community-based alternative to ED and hospital based mental health services, there are a different range of services available. Clients can get support from peer workers and clinical staff to support de-escalating, when experiencing challenging times. While there, clients can socialise and have a coffee in a safe and supportive environment. Warm referrals enable clients to access treatment more quickly, reducing explanation of their case to multiple parties.
People do not need to have a referral or appointment to access the service.
The new After Hours Safe Space opened on 29 October. Opening hours are 6-9pm Monday to Friday and 12 noon to 8pm on weekends. Individuals in the community needing low intensity mental health support are welcome.
The new service has been developed in partnership between GCH, GCPHN and PCCS to deliver increased access to new spaces for the local community. This in addition to the existing Safe Space in Mermaid Beach, established in 2018.
This online webinar was recorded, see the recording here. More information on the After Hours Safe Space can be found here.
