This is a free community event and the day has been designed to instil hope, connection and collaboration.
Every day more than eight people die by suicide in Australia. Suicide is a leading cause of death for Australians between 15-44 years of age, and is responsible for more deaths than motor vehicle accidents. Men are three times more likely to die by suicide than females and the suicide rate amongst Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is more than double the national rate.
The theme of the forum is “Working together to prevent suicide“. Gold Coast Primary Health Network and Gold Coast Health have recently formed a Suicide Prevention Leadership Group for the Gold Coast to develop a suicide prevention plan for the region.
We have adopted the LifeSpan framework, an evidence-based, integrated approach to suicide which aims to build a safety net for the community by connecting and coordinating new and existing interventions and programs, and building the capacity of the community to better support people facing a suicide crisis.
Together we all have a significant role to play in suicide prevention in our region. Come and talk to us on the day to find out more about the LifeSpan model and how you can be involved.
There will be inspiring people sharing their lived experience as well as a range of guest speakers sharing perspectives and initiatives that shine a light on suicide prevention/postvention support in our Gold Coast Community.
