QScript provides information about your monitored medicines prescription history and supports your healthcare provider to ensure your treatment plan is effective and leading to better patient physical, mental and social wellbeing outcomes.
Monitored medicines can be helpful drugs in the management of pain caused by accident, injury or surgery, or the symptoms of anxiety, sleep disorders and more.
However, these medicines could cause potential harm when consumed at high dosages, when combined with other medications, or when not taken as prescribed.
Your doctor, pharmacist and other healthcare providers are required to look up QScript before prescribing, dispensing or giving a treatment dose of any monitored medicine.
QScript is secure and the doctors, other prescribers and pharmacists involved in your care are the only healthcare providers authorised to access information on the system.
The information they access will help them determine if the monitored medicines prescribed to you remain the best and safest options. QScript alerts your healthcare provider when you may be at risk of harm caused by monitored medicines and ensures those involved in your care has information about the monitored medicines you are receiving.
For example, if a patient is being treated by a general practitioner and a specialist, both healthcare providers will have insight into what other monitored medicines are being prescribed to the patient. This helps to improve physical, mental and social wellbeing outcomes for the patient.
QScript does not prevent your healthcare provider from prescribing or dispensing your medicines. The decision to prescribe or dispense a monitored medicine remains with your healthcare provider in consultation with you. It’s important to regularly discuss your health issues and treatment options with a healthcare provider and the range of alternative treatment options available to you. This includes understanding how your monitored medicines work and being aware of side effects and the risk of mixing medications.
