Palliative and end of life wound care is complex, dynamic, and constantly evolving to balance the individual needs of the person. These wounds can be extremely challenging and frequently have a profound impact on the person with the wound, family and significant others, caregivers, and health professionals. The focus of care typically shifts away from traditional wound care where healing and wound closure are the goals to promoting comfort and dignity, relieving suffering and optimising quality of life.

This workshop is specifically for nurses working in residential and community aged care services in the Gold Coast region.

By participating in this workshop, attendees will have:

• Increased knowledge of the differences between palliative wounds and wounds associated with life’s end.
• Increased knowledge of treatment strategies used to care for palliative and end of life wounds.
• Increased knowledge of palliative care in supporting the person, caregivers, and health professionals.
• Increased confidence to identify escalation criteria and referral pathways.
• Increased knowledge of wound care strategies that can be used to control wound symptoms.

Presenters:

• Dr Michelle Gibb – Nurse Practitioner and Director and Founder of Wound Specialist Services Pty Ltd
  Michelle is a nurse practitioner with extensive experience in wound management across the continuum of healthcare and is well known both nationally and internationally for her expertise in the field. With a Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Nursing Science (Nurse Practitioner), Masters of Wound Care, Bachelor of Nursing and over 20 years’ career experience in the specialty of wounds, Michelle has a proven ability to inspire, motivate and develop others in the specialty of wounds. She is a professional leader, role model and mentor and has demonstrated ability to lead others through change.
• Nicola Morley – Vascular Nurse Practitioner | Gold Coast Health
  Nicola is a Vascular Nurse Practitioner with over 30 years nursing experience and has been a leader for 20 years in all aspects of chronic wound care. Nicola’s expertise includes healing lower limb problematic wounds of an arterial, venous, mixed and diabetic in nature. With thorough assessment, treatment, and diagnostic outcomes, she has had a tremendous positive impact on improving patient outcomes among this cohort. She collaborates with patients to create mutually acceptable care plans, maximising their health potential and reducing risk factors for vascular disease and associated wound conditions.
  
• Tracey Norling – Nurse Practitioner | Supportive & Specialist Palliative Care Service (SPACE), Gold Coast Health
  Tracey is a Nurse Practitioner in the Specialist Palliative Care Service. Tracey has an extensive background in oncology, haematology, and palliative care nursing. Her focus is on delivering compassionate clinical care, empowering nursing through education, and providing nursing leadership that drives system and quality improvement initiatives and change management.
