Make healthier choices. Create healthier habits.
A free initiative, with qualified Health Coaches, My health for life is all about making healthier choices and creating healthier habits.
Queenslanders have a healthy attitude to life. And why not? We live in one of the best places in the world. Even so, that doesn’t mean we’re all living our healthiest life. When our day-to-day gets in the way, healthy habits become harder to create.
Now, it’s a whole lot easier, because you can have your very own, FREE Health Coach.
The Queensland Government is funding on important initiative, through Health and Wellbeing Queensland, called My health for life. It’s aimed at preventing chronic disease – which is more common than you’d think.
It offers free health coaching, from qualified professionals, and guidance for Queenslanders who need support improving and maintaining their health. If you don’t think that applies to you, then you may want to think again, as more than 60% of Queenslanders are overweight or obese, putting them at risk. My health for life will help you modify unhealthy behaviours and create healthier ones, from wherever you are, at your pace, in simple steps.
There are a variety of offerings, including one-on-one phone coaching, group sessions in your local area, on online option and culturally adapted versions for CALD and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. It’s easy to find out if My health for life is right for you. Just answer a few simple questions in on online Health Check, at myhealthforlife.com.au
You may not need the support of the initiative at all, but it never hurts to check, right?
My health for life is based on the latest evidence for changing behaviours, but it’s really simple to do. You work with your Health Cooch to co-design a plan to create healthier habits over time – with six coaching sessions held over 18 weeks.
No gimmicks and no ‘gym tricks’. No weigh-ins, hard training, special diets or fitness-club memberships.
“I loved the opportunity to reflect on my goals each fortnight and have someone to talk with. It helped me to change my mindset – to put myself first. I move more, eat healthier and feel good.”
– Jo, My health for life participant.
“I was at a stage where I was sic of being home, semi-isolated, feeling fat and lazy and concerned about how my health and activity was declining with age. I saw others around me talking about being old, losing energy, sounding bitter and twisted. So, I felt I needed to get up and do something. I participated in the My health for life program. It was a great first step and stimulus for me to realise I only have one life, and it is me that has to d o something to make sure that life is lived to the full, to enjoy full health and active movement for as long as possible.
It has helped me lose a total of 16kg and developed a much more positive and active approach to life in the last 6 months. I would love the broader population take on this challenge and reach out, grow and use the opportunity to maximise their health and discover new ways to grow a healthier community and state.”
– Peter, My health for life participant.
