The Clinical Placements team at the GCPHN considers general practice placements to be essential in the training of the future healthcare workforce.
The Clinical Placements program at the GCPHN was established to provide Griffith University and Bond University with an intermediary organisation able to coordinate medical students with GPs on their behalf.
Due its continued success since being launched in 2005, the program has become an essential tool for the Universities in placing medical students in the Gold Coast and Southern Brisbane region.
Along with providing medical student placements, the program also works with Griffith School of Nursing and Midwifery and Southern Cross University to assist in placing undergraduate nurses in GP practices with RN preceptors to undertake their GP placements.
The program continues to expand with growing placement numbers each year meeting the ever-increasing need for General Practitioners and nurses in general practice Australia.
The role of the Clinical Placements team is to work closely with participating universities, GPs, RNs, Practice Managers, practices, and students to provide a seamless and quality experience for all.
A positive general practice placement experience for medical and nursing students will empower students to make genuine contributions providing enhanced potential benefits for student learning, general practices, patients, and health systems.
