Safer Futures Symposium

Bridging Intersections in Youth Support and Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence and Women’s Wellbeing Sectors for Early Intervention

This symposium aims to create a collaborative platform where the youth support sector and domestic violence, sexual violence, and women’s wellbeing sectors connect to address the multifaceted challenges faced by vulnerable young people navigating their relationships. The overarching theme underscores the collective commitment to influencing young people’s perspectives, breaking cycles of violence, and shaping positive outcomes for the next generation.

The full-day event will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn and work through the unique intersecting barriers that affect vulnerable young people. Attendees will have the option to participate in a range of workshops throughout the day as well as hearing from two different panels; one of service providers who have successfully helped young people and one of young people who have had positive experiences with service providers. Additionally, attendees will meet and hear keynote speaker, youth worker and TV personality Brooke Blurton speak on her experience as an Aboriginal woman, a victim/survivor and youth worker.

Participants will gain: 

• Awareness of resources and tools to support young people.
• Increased skills and confidence in facilitating trauma informed conversations with young people.
• New relationships through networking and collaboration opportunities
• Insight from inspirational speakers, including youth advocates, researchers, and people working in the industry from the range of sectors.
• An understanding of how to use existing resources in an engaging and meaningful way for young people.
• New information to support young people through an intersectional lens.

Registrations are now open for the Safer Futures Symposium. Organisations are also welcome to apply to showcase their resources for young people. The application can be completed when registering for the event.
