Anita Egginton, Social + Community Research, Planning & Development Consultant, will join the Gold Coast Disaster Recovery & Resilience education calendar this month to share the key findings and recommendations from the Thriving Kids in Disasters (TKiD) report. This evidence- and practice-informed report, developed through her work with the Thriving Qld Kids Partnership (TQKP), and funded by the John Villiers Trust, focuses on supporting the wellbeing and resilience of infants, children, and young people across the various phases of disaster management in Queensland. Anita will discuss how Network members can join the TKiD coalition and access a range of information, support, and resources. She is eager to hear about your initiatives and brainstorm child- and youth-centred disaster management ideas.
Anita has worked with individuals, groups, and communities in disaster and emergency contexts across Queensland since the 1990s. After ten years in remote areas, she completed her PhD on how disasters and climate change affect the use of public spaces and community infrastructure. In 2023, she worked with bushfire-impacted communities in southwest Queensland, joining forces with Jacinta Perry from TQKP to form a coalition aimed at improving disaster management systems for young people.
