The Gold Coast is vulnerable to severe floods, storms, bushfires, cyclones, and heatwaves. With the increasing frequency and intensity of disasters, the region faces a growing risk from extreme weather events. GCPHN is committed to supporting community preparedness, response, and recovery in the face of such emergencies.
On Christmas night 2023, Southeast Queensland was hit by severe storms. Because of heavy rainfall, flash flooding and strong winds, the Gold Coast experienced landslips, road closures and widespread property damage and power outages.
In response, the Gold Coast Primary Health Network swiftly launched a community grants program to restore social cohesion and help bring about recovery from the storm. Read more about GCPHN’s Reconnection for Resilience Community Grants Program here.
