This course is ADVANCED life support (ALS) Level 2, this course covers advanced resuscitation skills designed for the health care professional to develop leadership skills as well as critical thinking and decision-making skills.

You will be supported and coached by experienced facilitators to assist you to achieve advanced skills and knowledge. You must demonstrate advanced knowledge and skill to be awarded accreditation. Otherwise, we can only issue a certificate of attendance (non-accredited).
We’ve noted in some candidates, a lack of basic nursing knowledge regarding the difference between a collapse and a cardiac arrest. To elaborate, unconsciousness (LOC) is a sign of many conditions, not necessarily a cardiac arrest, e.g., head injury, epilepsy, overdose, to name a few. You do not perform cardiac compressions unless the patient has a loss of cardiac output due to cardiac arrest.

Assessment before action is a must – this means checking for a pulse. Only if pulseless do you perform cardiac compressions. You must show an understanding of this basic knowledge before we can award accreditation.

COURSE ACCREDITATION
The course is endorsed by the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) and is conducted over one day, with a pre-reading component and online video presentations.
It reflects the latest Australia New Zealand Committee of Resuscitation (ANZCOR) guidelines relating to advanced life support.

PRESENTER
Anne is a critical care nurse educator with more than 26 years of experience in clinical teaching in both the hospital and tertiary sectors. She is also a Professional Registered Counsellor and has her own health education business and counselling practice.

Anne is a national and international lecturer, presenting seminars on general nursing, high dependency, assessment of the deteriorating patient and interpretation of ECG. These topics are taught in Australia and New Zealand to a broad range of healthcare professionals including paramedics, nurses and doctors.

Anne has extensive experience teaching advanced life support to nurses and doctors for over 25 years. Anne is also a successful author of two clinical nursing education texts, ECGs Simply and Interpretation of Chest X-rays Simply and the most recent book from her counselling practice and experience, Uncomplicating Life – Simply. Anne is a member of the Australian College of Critical Care Nursing (ACCCN).
