Complex or hard-to-heal wounds are a major public health problem that incur high economic costs. They are a major source of morbidity and can have an enormous impact on the person with the wound, caregivers, and the healthcare system.  In this workshop you will learn how to identify wounds that are at risk of being complex or hard-to-heal and practical strategies that need to be considered to optimise outcomes.

Target audience, nurses working in community Aged Care and Residential Aged Care Homes (RACH) in the Gold Coast region.

By participating in this workshop, attendees will have:

• Increased knowledge of complex or hard-to-heal wounds.
• Increased confidence to identify characteristics of complex wounds.
• Increased knowledge of biofilm and its relationship with complex wounds.
• Increased knowledge of treatment strategies to optimise patient outcomes.
• Increased confidence to describe holistic management strategies for complex wounds.
• Increased confidence to identify escalation criteria.

Presenter:

• Dr Michelle Gibb – Director and Founder of Wound Specialist Services Pty Ltd
  Michelle is a nurse practitioner with extensive experience in wound management across the continuum of healthcare and is well known both nationally and internationally for her expertise in the field. With a Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Nursing Science (Nurse Practitioner), Masters of Wound Care, Bachelor of Nursing and more than 20 years’ career experience in the specialty of wounds.
