Despite skin tears being the most common wound in older persons, they are frequently misdiagnosed and poorly managed resulting in avoidable complications. In this workshop you will learn practical strategies to assess, manage and prevent skin tears.

Target audience, nurses working in community Aged Care and Residential Aged Care Homes (RACH) in the Gold Coast region.

By participating in this workshop, attendees will have:

• Increased knowledge of factors that affect skin integrity
• Increased confidence to conduct a comprehensive skin assessment
• Increased confidence to use the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP) classification system to identify and document skin tears
• Increased knowledge of treatment strategies for a person with a skin tear
• Increased knowledge of preventive strategies to reduce the risk of skin tears.

Presenters:

• Dr Michelle Gibb – Director and Founder of Wound Specialist Services Pty Ltd
  Michelle is a nurse practitioner with extensive experience in wound management across the continuum of healthcare and is well known both nationally and internationally for her expertise in the field. With a Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Nursing Science (Nurse Practitioner), Masters of Wound Care, Bachelor of Nursing and more than 20 years’ career experience in the specialty of wounds.
• Sharon Whalley – Nurse Practitioner & Lymphoedema Therapist
  Sharon is a Nurse Practitioner and Lymphoedema Therapist (Level 1) with a passion for growing the next generation of health professionals. Sharon has a wealth of experience in a range of clinical areas, but her true passion lies in the specialty of wounds. Sharon is dedicated to improving outcomes for people with wounds.
