An introduction to working with children who have experienced disaster and the specialist resource ‘Birdie’s Tree’. Those who attend in person will be trained in how to use this wonderful and versatile collection of books and soft toys as well as leaving with a full suite of resources to use in your organisation.
Birdie’s Tree: Birdie’s Tree has been designed to support the mental health and emotional wellbeing of babies and young children, their parents and families, in relation to severe weather events and other natural disasters. The resources are helpful in the ‘preparedness’ phase (before a natural disaster happens), during the ‘response’ phase (while an event is happening) and in the ‘recovery’ phase (after an event has occurred).
Birdie’s Tree has been developed by the Queensland Centre for Perinatal and Infant Mental Heal (QCPIMH), Queensland’s statewide hub of expertise in the mental health and emotional wellbeing of expectant and new parents, babies and young children. QCPIMH is a Queensland Government service hosted by Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service.

CANCELLATIONS: Online registrations will be confirmed immediately in our booking system. This is our preferred method of RSVP. To cancel your RSVP please use the email link or call the GCPHN events team (PH. 07 5635 2455). In recent months a number of registrants to our events have failed to attend and have not provided cancellation advice. This often results in others, often on wait lists, being unable to attend. In addition, GCPHN resources are wasted as costs for catering and support staff are still incurred. Each event therefore incurs a cost per person ranging from $65 – $120. GCPHN wishes to continue to provide training and education at no cost to primary care providers, however for these reasons we may have to consider implementing fees to offset our costs in the future. Please ensure you provide at least 2 days’ notice if you need to cancel your registration
