• A formalised ongoing relationship with your general practice and preferred GP, which has been shown to improve health outcomes.
• Longer MBS-funded telephone consultations with your usual general practice.
• Longer bulk billed telehealth consultations for children under 16 and Commonwealth concession card holders, at the new triple bulk billing rate.
• More regular visits from their GP and better care planning for people living in a residential aged care home.
• Connections to more appropriate care in general practice for people with chronic conditions who visit hospital frequently.

People who are facing hardship will be exempt from all eligibility requirements. This includes:

• Individuals experiencing domestic and family violence
• People facing homelessness

Additionally:

• Parents/guardians and children can be registered at the same practice if one of them is eligible and registered.
• A parent/guardian must register a child under 14 years and provide consent on their behalf.
• Young people aged 14 to 17 years can register and provide their own consent without a parent/guardian.
• People who live in a residential aged care home are exempt from the MyMedicare eligibility requirement for one face-to-face visit for practices in remote locations, or two face-to-face visits for practices in other locations in the previous 24 months recorded with the same practice.

1. Ensure Your Practice is Registered: Your chosen practice must be registered in MyMedicare before you can start your own registration.
2. Choose Your Card: If you hold both a DVA Veteran Card and a Medicare card, you can choose either one for registration. For DVA Veteran Card registration, you’ll need to complete a form at your practice.
3. Ways to Register:
   • Online: Start the registration process through your Medicare Online Account or the Express Plus Medicare Mobile app. Your practice staff will complete the registration in the MyMedicare system.
   • Through Your Practice: Ask your practice to initiate the registration in MyMedicare. This will trigger a registration request in your Medicare Online Account or the Express Plus Medicare Mobile app, which you can then complete.
   • In-Person: Fill out a registration form at your practice. By signing the form, you consent to participate in MyMedicare with that practice. Practice staff will then complete the registration in the MyMedicare system.
   • Registering if you live in a Residential Aged Care Home: If you live in a residential aged care home, you can register for MyMedicare by completing a registration form provided by your GP or through your Medicare Online Account. You don’t need to physically attend a practice to complete your registration.

MyMedicare does not tie you to a particular GP – you can change your preferred GP within your registered practice at any time. You can also register with a new practice if you meet the eligibility requirements, and the practice is already registered in MyMedicare. MyMedicare is a registration system and won’t hold any of your clinical health information. Your clinical health information will continue to be stored in your My Health Record, if you have one.
