Dr Michael Wright is a general practitioner (GP), health economist and health services researcher based in Sydney, Australia. Michael completed his medical training in Queensland and was a GP and practice owner on the Gold Coast with his father, and the inaugural Chair of General Practice Gold Coast (GPGC).
For the last 10 years, Michael has combined clinical practice, academic research and leadership roles. Michael is currently the Chief Medical Officer of Avant Mutual, chairs RACGP’s Reference Expert Committee on Funding and Health System Reform, is Deputy Chair of RACGP NSW/ACT Clinical Council. He is also board chair of Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network and Associate Professor at the Centre for Future Health Systems at the University of New South Wales. Michael also spent four years in the UK before returning to Australia in 2013.
Michael is keen to reconnect and chat with GPGC members to better understand the challenges we face in general practice, and also to share some ideas for the future of general practice and our health system.
