Youth Check

Youth Check is a free health check service for young people aged 12 to 25 who are at risk of, or currently experiencing, homelessness in the Gold Coast region. A friendly, experienced Registered Nurse will provide physical, mental, and sexual health care. It’s all about the client: their choices, their comfort, and their privacy. Youth Check will work with clients respectfully and make sure they feel safe and heard every step of the way.

For young people aged between 12 and 25 which supports early intervention services for emerging physical and mental health needs.

Activities

Youth Check provides friendly, confidential health support for young people aged 12 to 25 who are at risk of, or dealing with homelessness, including a Registered Nurse to support you with:

  • Health checks – A full check-up and chat about your mental, physical and sexual wellbeing.
  • Sexual health – Private support, info, and testing.
  • Linking you up – Help finding a doctor or connecting with other services.
  • Working out the system – Support understanding and accessing health and social services.
  • Health info – Simple, useful info to help you take care of yourself.

Details

Located at:

  • headspace Southport on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • headspace Upper Coomera on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Youth Check are based in places that are youth-friendly and easy to get to. Clients don’t need to be registered with headspace to attend, and they can just drop in or organise an outreach appointment.

Eligibility

  • Individuals aged 12-25, who are at risk of, or experiencing homelessness.
  • Live in the Gold Coast region

Access and Referrals

Youth Check is designed to be easy to access, you don’t need a GP or provider referral.

  • You can self-refer through the providers website.
  • The service also accepts online provider referrals from other health services, community and government organisations.

Call on 07 5600 1999 to book an appointment with the Registered Nurse or just ask a question about the service.

When completing online referral forms, please mention “Youth Check” in the description box, then select the service type and choose “Gold Coast” as the region. This ensures your referral reaches the right team.
