Submitting a second vaccination encounter to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) does not amend or remove a previously incorrectly recorded encounter. This may result in the second encounter going into a pend status. Providers will be contacted to clarify the correct vaccine code. These delays impact a patient’s access to timely and accurate immunisation history.
To avoid this, vaccination providers needing to change an incorrect record of a vaccination should make amendments as soon as possible, by:
– using the AIR Site – see update vaccination data already submitted to AIR, or
– using their practice management software update encounter function (noting not all software has this capability).
Important: updates to an existing vaccination record must be made using the same provider number that the original vaccination was reported under.
Where providers are unable to make an update, they should contact AIR on 1800 653 809 to update or remove the original encounter.
