Gold Coast Primary Health Network is offering 20 practices the opportunity to participate in a remunerated facilitated data-informed quality improvement (QI) activity focusing on winter vaccination.
The 2023 flu season was one of the most severe flu seasons since 2019 due to lower influenza immunisation rates compared to previous years. In addition to this, Australia experienced another COVID-19 wave in late 2023 with concerns that another wave of COVID-19 infections will occur during the 2024 winter season, increasing the risk of severe illness in vulnerable populations, especially older Australians and people with complex health conditions.
The Nurse Winter Vaccination Program aims to improve the uptake of recommended vaccinations in general practice in preparation for the winter season.
The purpose is to promote vaccine awareness of COVID-19 vaccine booster program in vulnerable populations, as well as other recommended vaccinations (e.g. Influenza), which in turn can increase vaccine uptake to decrease the transmission of vaccine preventable illnesses. This program will also strengthen and highlight the role of practice nurses in general practice to manage and lead health program initiatives.
