Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) has launched our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2025–27, which reflects a deep commitment to realising positive change in healthcare outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“Our vision for reconciliation is that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have equal access to high quality primary health care and experience improved health and wellbeing,” said Dr Ka-Kiu Cheung, GCPHN Board Chair, speaking at the event.
GCPHN recognises work to address health inequities must be led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and firmly grounded in connection, culture and healing.
“When we walk together with respect and shared purpose, we create a future that is stronger, fairer, and healthier for everyone,” said Dr Cheung.
“That is the future we commit to through our Innovate RAP.”
GCPHN’s CEO, Angi Bissell, said the work being done was intended to support real and purposeful change for the community.
“I am incredibly proud to find that GCPHN demonstrates a genuine, enduring commitment to reconciliation by walking alongside First Nations communities on the Gold Coast with respect, accountability, and shared purpose,” she said.
“This is not always easy work, but it is essential.”
GCPHN’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2025–27 is a living framework – not just a publication.
“It is how we choose to work, and a core part of our vision of ‘Building one world class health system for the Gold Coast’,” said Ms Bissell.
The release of the framework marks a new milestone for GCPHN in its reconciliation journey, which began in 2013.
Today, GCPHN supports culturally safe, person, family and community-centred care.
We commission a range of services co-designed with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services, providers and community members across the Gold Coast. Our work includes conducting health promotion and quality improvement activities to boost immunisation, cancer screening, chronic disease management and other preventative health programs.
Staff who work at our commissioned services undertake cultural training so Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can access care that feels safe and respectful, and cultural safety education is promoted across primary care.
The 2025-27 Innovative RAP and its actions align with GCPHN’s values of sustainability, evidence-based, accountability, innovation, collaboration and influence.
