“COVID-19 Normal” has finally arrived, with reduced restrictions (noting exceptions around mask wearing in health care settings), a clear pathway for managing the ongoing COVID-19 positive patients, and hopefully a return to all those primary care activities that have been deferred during the last two years. When will we return to our pre-COVID-19 status? Possibly never, but I believe most health care professionals are pleased we as a community have been so successful in preventing many deaths through the last two years.
GCPHN continues to work collaboratively in the COVID-19 space, as well as all the other activities aiming to provide better health care experiences for disadvantaged people. We are also supporting health care providers in their work and will continue to provide opportunities for expanded patient management into the future. Primary Sense will be part of that as we all seek to identify (and actively manage) individuals with increased risk of un-planned hospital admissions. Practice software holds a large amount of information that allows GPs to provide more comprehensive forward planning for high risk patients. Primary Sense is being offered to all practices with compatible software and it is planned to be the only tool GCPHN will fund and support after June 2022.
International Women’s Day has been an opportunity to celebrate local leaders, and two GP’s have been recognised on the Gold Coast Bulletin most influential women list – Dr Sonu Haikerwal and Dr Donna Tanchev. In addition Drs Kylie Alcorn (GC Health ID Director) and Sheree Moko (Plastic Surgeon) have been named in this list. It’s so good to have health professionals acknowledged for their community contribution.
Finally, I was saddened to hear of the death of our colleague Professor Chris Del Mar. His tragic accident three years ago left many in shock and his return home as a C1/2 tetraplegic heartfelt, as he and his family soldiered on despite many challenges. Our thoughts are with his family, Chris will be missed across so many dimensions.
