Welcome to 2023.
I am honoured to be elected Chair of GCPHN and will endeavour to represent all of Primary Care and the Gold Coast community in my role, to help improve health outcomes in the primary health care setting on the Gold Coast. In March, I will be attending the joint PHN CEO and Chair national meeting, representing GCPHN. This will be an opportunity to collaborate and help with health care reform nationwide.
Hopefully, over the holidays, all primary care staff had an opportunity to rest, recuperate and celebrate the festive season with their families after a tough few years in the midst of the pandemic. I trust all new GPs and GP registrars are settling into their new Gold Coast positions. I encourage all new GPs to join the GP and Practice News – Gold Coast Primary Health Network (gcphn.org.au) mailing list to stay up to date with local health care news.
Also, all Gold Coast GPs are encouraged to join GPGC (a member organisation of GCPHN) and follow the GPGC Members Facebook page for local GP support, education and advocacy. If needed, I can be reached via phone (07 5635 2455) and email (lboardchair@gcphn.com.au)
Primary Sense, the population health management tool developed by Gold Coast PHN, is now used by 161 general practices (with compatible software) across the Gold Coast. I would encourage GPs to continue to code diagnoses and review medication lists so Primary Sense can assist with clinically relevant prompts in your day-to-day practice.
We are excited to offer a new opportunity to help support general practices and their multidisciplinary teams to make a difference for the over-65 patient cohort. The PHN has partnered with Dr. Chris Bollen (General Practitioner) and his wife Jane Bollen (General Practice Nurse) of BMP consulting to offer a highly interactive multidisciplinary workshop focused on healthy ageing and frailty. This workshop promises to help you work more effectively with older people and assist you in keeping people well at home.
In addition, we are offering a renumerated quality improvement activity centred around identifying patients at risk of frailty and referring them to PHN-supported community healthy ageing programs. An expression of interest will be released on 8th February for interested General Practices and their multidisciplinary teams.
If you have any further questions or comments, please get in touch with me.
Kind Regards,
Dr Lisa Beecham
