The GCPHN Clinical Council provides strategic, clinical advice to ensure health services meet the needs of the local community, helping guide planning, commissioning and evaluation of primary healthcare initiatives.
Hinterland Medical Centre GP Dr Kristy Bayliss became Chair of the GCPHN Clinical Council earlier this year after serving as a member for the past two years.
She says the varied roles available in healthcare are a big career incentive, particularly for young women, with most Australian medical school graduates these days being female.
“One of the big attractions is the flexible job opportunities offered by the sector.
“There’s everything from administration to surgery to general practice and palliative care, paediatrics and plenty more – as varied as you like, particularly with so many specialties.
“My advice to any girls and young women is to pick a specialty to get your career ball rolling but expect things to be ever-changing with new and exciting opportunities everywhere you look.”
