Held on Thursday 30 October 2025, the day opened with a powerful Welcome to Country and cultural therapy session, creating a strong sense of respect and connection.
Dr Louise La Sala’s keynote, Meeting People Where They Are: Online, offered fresh insights into youth and digital safety in mental health care. The call to move from awareness to action on social media and youth suicide prevention resonated strongly with attendees.
Two thought-provoking panel discussions unpacked the complexity of community needs, covering youth and homelessness, domestic and family violence, perinatal mental health and men’s wellbeing. Speakers emphasised that connection, compassion and cultural safety are essential to improving outcomes.
The event also highlighted new service pathways, including in-home detox support through AIR Detox, culturally responsive care with the new Culture in Mind Psychosocial Support Program from Multicultural Communities Council Gold Coast, and better supports for people with disability through the Mental Health Intellectual and Developmental Disability Service at Gold Coast Health.
Closing the day, Stacey Vervoort offered a powerful First Nations perspective on social and emotional wellbeing, grounding the conversation in culture and community.
Filled with insight, optimism and collaboration, the event reinforced the importance of shaping a future where everyone can access the right support, at the right time.
