More support for young people at headspace Upper Coomera and Southport

headspace Upper Coomera and Southport have received demand management funding from the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing for the 2026 and 2027 financial years.

headspace provides free, confidential support for young people aged 12–25 with concerns around mental health, physical health, work, and study.  

On the Gold Coast, the centres are funded by the Australian Government through the Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN), and operated by Lives Lived Well.

The additional funding will:

• Reduce wait times for young people accessing services.
• Employ extra staff to strengthen engagement with First Nations and multicultural communities.
• Upgrade facilities including a refreshed reception area, new furniture, repainting, and upgraded lighting. 

headspace Southport has also been selected to become a headspace Plus centre – a new model with extra staff and capability to support young people with more complex and serious mental health needs. 

Marijka Brennan, Clinical Director, Lives Lived Well, says headspace Southport being a nominated headspace Plus centre is a “real milestone for the Gold Coast”.  

“It means we can offer more care for young people with mental health needs right where they live,” Marijka said. 

“This strengthens our local services and gives families confidence that help is available when it’s needed most.” 

Over the 2024-2025 financial year: 

• Upper Coomera supported 637 young people, including 446 who attended for the first time. 
• Southport supported 994 young people, with 600 attending for the first time.

Southport: Level 1, H20 Broadwater, 1/2 Nind Street, Southport.
