The Emerging Minds Community Trauma Toolkit is a suite of resources developed to help support children and families before, during, and after a disaster or traumatic event.
The information and training materials in the toolkit have been tailored to six key audiences – educators, first responders, community leaders, parents/carers, GPs and health and social service practitioners. The toolkit is also sorted by five timelines – preparedness, immediate, short term recovery, long term recovery, and ongoing recovery.
Infants and children depend on the adults around them for safety and security. During a disaster or traumatic event the above audiences each play a key role in supporting children and families. Infants and children will need reassurance, care, and opportunities to share their feelings. The Community Trauma Toolkit resources provide a starting point for adults to help children and families navigate this.
Over a year in the making, the Community Trauma Toolkit is full of great tools to help workers and parents/carers to support infants and children through a disaster or traumatic event. You’ll find a rich array of different resources including videos, podcasts, training workshops to run with your team and downloadable factsheets.
