Older age remains the biggest risk factor for severe COVID-19 and cases continue to occur in residential aged care homes. While immunisation is voluntary, it is strongly encouraged for aged care residents.

Aged care providers must stay alert and ready for potential COVID-19 outbreaks. The Australian Government, in partnership with state and territory governments, will monitor COVID-19 and update the community on public health measures. The Communicable Diseases Network Australia (CDNA) National Guideline for the Prevention, Control and Public Health Management of Outbreaks of Acute Respiratory Infection in Residential Aged Care Homes. Home and community support providers should review and become familiar with these guidelines and are encouraged to develop an emergency management plan or outbreak management plan, depending on the type of services delivered.

Aged care service providers should regularly check updates from Commonwealth and Queensland Health.
Providers remain responsible for ensuring they have sufficient PPE stock on hand in preparation for future outbreaks and should continue to source stock through their usual commercial supply chains.
