Practice Incentive Program (PIP) for Quality Improvement
The PIP Quality Improvement (QI) Incentive commenced on 1 August 2019. It is a quarterly payment to general practices who implement quality improvement activities to improve patient outcomes and deliver best practice care.
There are two components for practices to meet to qualify for a PIP QI Incentive payment:
1. Participate in continuous quality improvement
The PIP QI Incentive rewards practices for participating in continuous quality improvement activities in partnership with their local Primary Health Network (PHN). Practices may focus their quality improvement activities that address any of the 10 specified improvement measures. Alternatively, practices can choose to focus their activities on other areas, which are informed by their clinical information system data and meet the needs of their practice population.
2. Provide their PIP eligible data set (de-identified data) to their local PHN
General practices must submit their de-identified PIP Eligible Data Set from their clinical information system on a quarterly basis. This enables PHN’s to aggregate the data for population health planning and also assists the practices identify key priority areas for quality improvement activities if required.
