MyMedicare is a voluntary patient registration model that formalises relationships between patients, their general practice, GP, and primary care team. It aims to strengthen Medicare, support continuity of care, and improve health outcomes through blended funding and longer telehealth consultations. Both patients and providers need to sign up for MyMedicare.
Changes to the Medicare Benefits Schedule items for chronic disease management have been deferred from 1 November 2024 until 1 July 2025. The additional time will support all practices and providers, including GPs and allied health providers, to be ready for the changes to these important services.
Many practices are encountering a new error message in PRODA when linking providers to GPACI patients in HPOS. Services Australia has confirmed this issue and is working on a fix, expected in December. In the meantime, if you see the 0831 warning, it’s not an error but a prompt indicating partial eligibility. Simply select ‘confirm’ to proceed and ‘save’ twice if needed. Updated wording for the warning message will be released to reduce confusion
Regularly seeing the same GP and healthcare team can lead to better health outcomes. Formalising your relationship with your GP through MyMedicare can enhance these benefits. For more information visit the Department of Health and Aged Care website.
