The Queensland Health Immunisation Team are aware there has been an increase in enquiries from providers regarding the funding of RSV vaccines, likely in response to recent media coverage about RSV and the availability of vaccines for older adults. In particular, there has been attention on the TGA’s recent decision to lower the approved age for the Arexvy vaccine from ≥60 to ≥50 years.
Unfortunately, some media reports have incorrectly stated that these vaccines are currently funded for older adults. To clarify, there have been no changes to the eligibility criteria for funded RSV immunisation in Queensland or under the National Immunisation Program. At this time, RSV vaccines for older adults (including Abrysvo and Arexvy) are not funded, but can be purchased privately if individuals wish to be vaccinated. Arexvy is not registered for use in pregnancy.
