Targeted menopause and perimenopause care is expanding on the Gold Coast, with women set to benefit from greater support through the expansion of the Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic under the Australian Government's Women's Health Package from 1 July.
Perimenopause and menopause can affect women differently, with symptoms ranging from hot flushes and sleep problems to anxiety, brain fog and changes to mental health and wellbeing.
There is a dedicated Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain clinic locally at Benowa with funding provided through Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) on behalf of the Australian Government.
The clinic ensures women in our community can access care and support from a dedicated GP-led, expert multidisciplinary team to help them manage endometriosis and pelvic pain.
From 1 July, this clinic – alongside more than 30 other Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain clinics nationally – will offer expanded menopause and perimenopause care and support for Australian women in their local communities as part of a nearly $800 million Australian Government women’s health package.
“The continued funding of the Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic at Benowa is deeply important. As a woman, I recognise how many in my generation, and those before us, navigated these conditions without the understanding or care they deserved. This investment not only improves access for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause today, but it also helps change the story for those who follow.”
Angi Bissell, CEO, Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN)
“These clinics will help improve health outcomes for Australian women through better access to reliable, evidence-based, information and support.”
The Hon Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health & Ageing, Minister for Disability and the National Disability Insurance Scheme
The clinics will continue to provide specialised support for endometriosis and persistent pelvic pain, while expanding access to provide women with perimenopause and menopause care, to help with the treatment and management of symptoms.
Many clinics are broadening the support available to women experiencing menopause and perimenopause, with access to physiotherapy, dietitians and psychology alongside clinical care. By bringing these services together, women can access more coordinated support to help manage symptoms, maintain their wellbeing and navigate this stage of life with confidence.
“The continuation of this program represents an important step forward for women’s healthcare on the Gold Coast. Elysian Women’s Health is proud to continue providing specialised endometriosis and pelvic pain services while expanding into comprehensive perimenopause and menopause care at Medical Super Clinic Benowa. With the support of Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN), we are strengthening our multidisciplinary model to ensure more women have access to timely, evidence-based care throughout every stage of their reproductive health journey.”
Dr Kenneth Loon, CEO, Montier Health
The Australian Government’s Women’s Health Package covers broader areas of health investment such as cheaper scripts for new treatments listed on the PBS, with savings in PBS listings for menopausal hormone therapies. More than 125,000 have undergone a menopause health assessment since they became covered by Medicare.
There is at least one Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic in every state and territory. Each clinic operates within an existing general practice.
