A new antenatal indicator has been added to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). This allows vaccination providers to report to the AIR if a person is pregnant at the time of vaccine administration.
Vaccination information can be reported to the AIR through clinical information software or the AIR site via Health Professional Online Services (HPOS).
Using Clinical Information Software
Vaccination providers using clinical information software that has been updated can report pregnancy status using the antenatal indicator.
Vaccination providers using clinical information software that has not yet been updated, can report pregnancy status using the ‘vaccine type’ field and select ‘antenatal’.
Note: Clinical information software providers have until October 2025 to update their clinical information software which to include the antenatal indicator and remove ‘antenatal’ from the ‘vaccine type’ option.
Contact your clinical information software provider for further information and support.
Using the AIR site
Vaccination providers using the AIR site should report pregnancy status using the antenatal indicator by choosing Yes, No or Unspecified.
Note: Where the individual is a female aged 10-65 years, the ‘Unspecified’ option will not be listed (effective from 1 March 2025).
