Gold Coast Health has changed the way they manage referrals. Smart Referrals is now the preferred method of making a referral into Gold Coast Health outpatient clinics for practices using Medical Director and Best Practice.
The new platform provides all the criteria required for the specialty clinic and allows documents to be attached and sent with the referral. You can also track the referral status and receive more communications via electronic transmission.
Nurse Practitioners and Midwives in general practice, who have a provider number, can also use Smart Referrals.
You can view information and resources on Smart Referrals the Queensland Health website.
If you have not had Smart Referrals installed, please contact our General Practice Liaison Unit who can assist you with installation and training GCGPLU@health.qld.gov.au
For practices using clinical software that is not compatible with Smart Referrals alternatives for sending referrals include
Please do not email any referrals to Gold Coast Health as this process is no longer supported.
Urgent referrals should always be marked as such so they can be prioritised.
Please note: Never open referral templates outside of clinical software as this may corrupt the files. Download the .rtf referral templates to your computer then import into your clinical software.
General practitioners using the following practice software can complete an AEFI directly though their practice software and submit it to Queensland Health via Medical-Objects (QHEALTH, Prevention Division PQ4000000B5).
