While the weather is heating up, it’s still flu season into September. Prioritising immunisation is crucial – particularly to protect our most vulnerable in the community including newborn babies, people with chronic conditions, the elderly and those with a compromised immune system.
Declining immunisation rates on the Gold Coast are putting our most vulnerable at higher risk of severe infection and hospitalisation. This issue is impacting immunisation rates for children, adolescences and older people.
Compared to in previous years, fewer people have received their annual influenza vaccine. Even as the weather warms up, we’re still in flu season. After the Gold Coast Show, local GPs can continue protecting patients with vaccination now.
Gold Coast Primary Health Network’s campaign, “Protect yourself from flu” showcases the importance of immunisation in reducing the risk of serious illness, and helping protect others.
We will be sharing this campaign across our social media channels and encourage you to like/comment/reshare across your practices and to your networks.
A clear recommendation from a trusted general practitioner remains one of the strongest predictors of vaccine uptake.
