When the Gold Coast community is affected by disasters, the Gold Coast Primary Health Network (GCPHN) works with local disaster management and recovery committees to provide support and information to general practices, medical clinics, Residential Aged Care Homes, and commissioned service providers working with Gold Coast residents.
GCPHN strives to create a resilient community by assisting primary care providers with disaster planning and preparedness, response and recovery.
The City of Gold Coast’s Disaster Emergency Dashboard provides real time alerts before, during and after disaster events. This includes road closures, power outages and weather warnings.
On Christmas night 2023, Southeast Queensland was hit by severe storms. Because of heavy rainfall, flash flooding and strong winds, the Gold Coast experienced landslips, road closures and widespread property damage and power outages.
In response, the Gold Coast Primary Health Network swiftly launched a community grants program to restore social cohesion and help bring about recovery from the storm. Read more about GCPHN’s Reconnection for Resilience Community Grants Program here.
