Life can be difficult at times, and many of us will need support, whether for ourselves or someone we care about. It is important to remember you are not alone and that there is help available.
Support can look different for everyone. A range of services are available, including Medicare Mental Health, Lifeline, headspace and 13YARN, so you can choose the option that is most suitable for you or the person you are supporting.
You may also find it helpful to explore trusted information and resources, either for support now or to feel more prepared in the future. One example is #chatsafe’s guide, available in 31 languages, which helps parents and carers support young people to have safer online conversations about self-harm and suicide.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call 000.
24/7 support is available for mental health – see crisis support options and who to reach at any time if help is needed.
headspace offers free, welcoming support for young people aged 12 to 25. Young people can access help with mental and physical health, work or study, and alcohol or other drug concerns, with some support available outside usual business hours.
They can contact headspace directly, without needing a referral, and the service can explain how privacy and confidentiality work. There is no pressure to seek support straight away, thoughts and feelings can change over time, and help is available whenever the young person feels ready.
There are two headspace centres located on the Gold Coast, Southport and Upper Coomera.
In addition, eheadspace offers free and confidential support every day from 3pm-10pm via phone or online chat. Young people can connect with a qualified mental health professional for support with their mental health and wellbeing, while parents, carers, family and friends can access advice and guidance on supporting a young person.
Medicare Mental Health Gold Coast is a welcoming place to start if you would like support with your mental health and wellbeing or are looking for information to help someone you care about.
Support might include practical tips, strategies or coaching to help you through a stressful time, including when you are caring for someone close to you.
The team can also help you explore mental health services that suit your needs and preferences or connect with local social and community activities.
You do not need a diagnosis or referral, and it is okay if you are unsure what kind of support you need, the team can help you find a way forward.
