The Six Steps to Support you to Assess and Respond to Elder Abuse module looks at the nature, severity, and impact of abuse of older people and explains how to recognise the risk factors, types and signs. It describes barriers and enablers for seeking help, and strategies to identify and safely respond to older patients experiencing abuse or violence.

This module is free for primary care staff and attracts RACGP/ACRRM CPD.

APNA at the request of and with funding from GSK has developed this comprehensive new module to support primary health care nurses with an understanding of meningococcal disease, the burden of disease and immunisation choices to assist in prevention.

Delivered 100% online and free to complete, the Foundations of Chronic Disease course is aimed at a range of health professionals working within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health, or have Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients. The course aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to provide foundation chronic disease education, understand the burden of chronic disease and the impact on Australia, and identify chronic disease models and the tools and resources used in managing chronic conditions in the primary healthcare arena. It also allows the student to build and embed foundational knowledge to allow advancement to further learning workshops.

Upon successful completion of the program students should have the ability to:

1. Understand the definition and burden of chronic disease
2. Understand the influencing factors on health
3. Identify modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors
4. Understand the patient journey and link to coordinated care, cultural safety, health literacy, and communication styles
5. Identify the need for prevention and thee use of prevention tools
6. Understand the role of primary healthcare in care coordination and chronic disease management
