The Six Steps to Support you to Assess and Respond to Elder Abuse module looks at the nature, severity, and impact of abuse of older people and explains how to recognise the risk factors, types and signs. It describes barriers and enablers for seeking help, and strategies to identify and safely respond to older patients experiencing abuse or violence.
This module is free for primary care staff and attracts RACGP/ACRRM CPD.

Define a six step framework to support you to identify and respond to abuse and violence towards older people.
Discuss the nature, severity, and impact of abuse of older people.
Recognise the risk factors, types and signs of the abuse of older people.
Describe the barriers and identify enablers for the older person to seek help.
Identify strategies to identify and safely respond to older people experiencing abuse or violence.
Determine pathways and access appropriate referral options for older people at risk or experiencing abuse.
